I can’t claim credit for today’s find, because I discovered this is not a mall through that one-woman portal to fashion fabulosity, Susie Bubble. It’s an insanely eclectic collection of handmade items from the hilltribes of Northern Thailand, tie-dyed t-shirts, tiaras, sunglasses and jewellery. The items in question are cut out and super imposed on the possibly unwilling faces of Kanye West, Courtney Love and Eminem (among others), which alone is enough to get my credit card out. If you were unconvinced, all the handmade articles are obtained according to strict fair trade principles, and this is not a mall deal directly with the artisans and their families. And despite its cooler-than-thou cut and paste approach, it’s a social enterprise committed to improving the livelihoods of women and children within the region.
